Festival Johann Sebastian Bach -- Slovakia 2005
(Announced on July 21, 2004 in Bratislava-Slovakia)

Dear friends, here are a few quick facts about the event:

  • Festival takes place between January 1 and December 31, 2005
  • Year 2005 -- 320 years from birth and 255th anniversary of death of JSB
  • Festival is organized by: Agentúra AP projekt (AP project agency) in Bratislava, Faculty of Music and Dance of the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Bratislava, Society of Concert Artists, Bach Society in Slovakia, The Union of Towns and Cities of Slovakia, as well as many other organizations in all of Slovakia.
  • The official poster was designed by academic painter Viera Žilinčanová.
  • The festival logo was designed by academic painter Miroslav Cipár (we encourage the local organizers to use this logo)
  • Albert Schweitzer, well-known Bach expert, will be commemorated. He was a philosopher, theologian, preacher, university professor, artist, writer, musician, organ expert and physician. We will be celebrating his 130th birthday (on January 14) and 40th anniversary of death (on September 4). Organizers hope that some Slovak publishing house will respond by publishing one of the many great books by this exceptional writer. One contemporary thinker put it this way: "Our way to Europe and maybe even Europe's way to the world leads through Lambarene, not through Iraq."
  • We would like to support fight with cancer by dedicating collections during the concerts to Cancer research foundation.
  • There are numerous individuals (artists, musicians, pedagogues) and organizations (media, cities, etc.) in Slovakia and abroad who support the concert.
  • A table calendar of historical organs for Year 2005 is available. New Bach recordings are being prepared for Year 2005.
  • We invite sponsors and partners of the individual concerts to join the effort and to make all the goals possible.

Sincerely,

  • Ján Juráš, AP project agency
  • Prof. Ján Vladimír Michalko, ArtD, dean of the Faculty of Music and Dance, Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, President of the Society of Concert Artists
